Principal's News
Dear Families,
I’m pleased to report that we have a couple of new interschool cross-country pennants to hang at Campbell Street following Wednesday’s event at Bayview Secondary College.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all 46 students who were selected to represent the school and a special well done to the Year 3 boys (4th) and Year 4 girls (2nd) for performing particularly well as teams.
Term 3
I’m happy to share with the school community that my appointment as Acting Principal has been extended through until the end of Term 3.
The recruitment process to select the next substantive Principal is underway and updates for Term 4 and beyond will be provided once that process has been completed.
Parent-teacher meetings
A letter will come home with students today outlining plans for our Term 2 parent-teacher meetings which are scheduled to take place during the week of June 23-27.
We’re using the School Interviews platform to manage bookings again this year and the letter families will receive includes relevant links, booking codes and instructions to support a smooth booking process.
More information will follow regarding plans for a student art exhibition and barbecue planned to coincide with the parent-teacher meetings on Wednesday, June 25.
School uniform, hoods etc.
With the colder weather, I understand that students may be wearing additional layers to school to stay warm throughout the day.
Where possible, additional layers or items of clothing should be navy blue in keeping with the school uniform, but I understand that won’t always be possible.
Items with hoods are ok to wear at school, but students will be asked to not have ‘hoods up’ in the classroom, around the school or playground (this includes the Year 6 jumpers).
Car park
The primary focus for all staff and families must be ensuring student safety in the car park or on Campbell Street during the period of time before school and again leading up to and immediately after 2.55pm.
Two parking bays (green below) are available for pick-up in the zone supervised by teaching staff every afternoon.
To help ensure traffic flow, yellow lines (highlighted below) indicate ‘no parking’ zones within the school carpark.
Cars should not be left parked on these yellow lines under any circumstances.
If you’re parking on Campbell Street to drop-off or collect students outside the school gate, please be mindful of existing parking restrictions and obey all signs and road markings.
This helps ensure vehicles travelling on Campbell Street or those queuing to enter the school carpark are able to do so without additional hazards or merging to consider.
Attendance
We know that Every School Day Matters, and I’d also like to reinforce that message with respect to the cumulative impact that late arrivals can have across the course of a school term or year.
Learning programs commence at 8.55am every day, so please do everything you can to make sure students are on site in time to get started alongside their peers.
If you’re facing barriers to regular attendance, please make contact with me to discuss ways the school can support you to overcome them.

Year 3/4B
Cascade Female Factory – Class Excursion
On Tuesday the 27th of May, both 3/4A & 3/4B classes went on an excursion to the Cascade Female Factory. We Ventured the yards and had a look at old items used in the early colony. We also looked at first-, second- and third-class convict uniforms.
We learnt how female convicts worked, what they ate and what they did at the factory. First class convicts were sent to work in houses as servants, cooks or maids. They were assigned to work for free men. Second class convicts would often sew. Crime class or third class would stay at the factory and do the laundry.
We saw where the females slept, where the nursery was and where the solitary confinement and dark cells were. We learned some of the names of the women and babies who were in the factory and listened to some stories about their lives there.
We had a great day with many of our questions being answered by our wonderful tour guides. We would also like to thank our parent volunteers for coming along for the day.
