Principal's News
Dear families
As announced last week, Samantha Jesney has been appointed as the permanent Principal, commencing in Term 4. Samantha brings a strong background in educational leadership and has let me know how much she’s looking forward to ensuring great outcomes for all students and the wider school community. I’m sure you’ll welcome her in the same way you did me when I commenced in Term 2.
It’s been a privilege to serve as Acting Principal and I thank you for the warm welcome and support I’ve received – I’ve really enjoyed my time leading Campbell Street Primary School and am grateful for the opportunity I’ve had here to learn and grow in the Principal role.
Sports Highlights
A huge thank you to Mr Ben Latham for his work behind the scenes coordinating our recent sports events, including the 3-6 swimming carnival this week, our 5/6 winter sports roster, and the representative football team.
These events have provided fantastic opportunities for our students to shine outside the classroom in a range of ways.
Congratulations to all students who’ve participated—you’ve shown wonderful teamwork, sportsmanship, and growth through your participation and athletic performance.
Upcoming Events
- School Association Quiz Night – Don’t forget to sign up for this fun community event on Saturday, August 30th. It’s a great way to connect and support our school.
- Book Week – Next week is Book Week! Our annual Book Week Parade will be held on Tuesday morning. We can’t wait to see the creativity and joy as students celebrate their favourite stories.
Kindergarten Update
Thank you to Eleanor Tong Lee and Rose Bain for their wonderful work with our Kindergarten students so far this term.
Their familiar faces and caring approach have helped our youngest learners settle back in beautifully. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Ferguson back from her long-service leave in Week 6.
Wellbeing Programs
We’re excited to be hosting two important wellbeing programs soon:
- The Growing Up Program (September 1st-5th)
- Think U Know – online safety (September 15th)
- The Bravehearts Ditto Keep Safe Show for K-2 students (September 18th)
These programs focus on educating students about personal wellbeing and protective behaviours, delivering age-appropriate, curriculum-aligned content to support our students’ safety and development.
The annual Student Wellbeing & Engagement Survey will also be taking place during the second half of term. This survey is an important tool we use to understand how our students in Year 4-6 are reporting their feelings of wellbeing across a number of domains.
Class News
Year 5/6 A, (alias 5/6 Innis Isaac)
5/6 A have started the term with a focus on debating in English which will lead us into writing a discussion text. A discussion text presents both sides of an issue in a balanced manner for the reader to consider. In Science we are looking to the stars to explore celestial objects ad cyclic patterns connected to Earth and Space Science. We are also looking into extreme weather events as part of HaSS. Our class novels are “The Last Bear” by Hannah Gold which links with HaSS where we will be exploring Climate Change as a contributing factor of extreme weather events and “Don’t call Me Ishmail” by Michael Gerard Bauer. We will continue to work with the Departments Word Origins and fluency initiative as part of Lifting Literacy. Miss Innis and I will be changing the reading groups we work with for the second half of the year

Year 3/4A
Mrs Cotton and Mrs Eastwood have been delighted with the enthusiasm Grade 3/4A have brought to all aspects of their work this term. They have jumped into their new class text, RUNT, and have been answering written questions about a chapter each day. They are improving in finding quotes from the text to support their answers and making sure their answers are in full sentences. There are some are some examples below.
We have also created character profiles on the different characters. We have then drawn and painted our characters based on their descriptions in the text. These are also below.

Assembly Certificates
Congratulations to all students who received a growth certificate during assembly on Tuesday 12th of August.
School Association
The School Association has had a busy couple of weeks!
Snack shack last week was a huge success. We heard the excitement building even before the school opened at 8:30. Did you know the volunteers made nearly 50 toasted sandwiches and cooked over 80 party pies and sausage rolls and they were only two of the things we had on offer? Our next snack shack is on Thursday 25th September and we are always looking for volunteers!
Behind the scenes, the association has been working hard on securing some amazing prizes to be used for the quiz night, an auction and end of year raffle. We have been lucky to secure items which include TSO tickets, wine, a Bonorong Park Family pass and so much more.
The sock fundraiser closes at 8pm tonight (Friday 15th), so there is still time to grab some amazing pattern socks and support the school.
The quiz masters have been hard at work coming up with some fantastic questions to test our knowledge. Have you organised a table for the quiz night yet? There is still time, so why not have a chat with your friends and organise a table for the quiz night on Saturday 30th August?
As the soccer season comes to an end and there are three weeks to go, we just thought we would share some random numbers with you. Since May, over 1000 sausages, 270 donuts, 167 coffees, 166 hot chocolates, 108 toasted sandwiches and so much more have been sold! A big shout out to the amazing volunteers (Shanan, Nina and Councillor Ben) who have made this possible week in and week out.
There is still time to volunteer a couple of hours on a Saturday to help the association out. Let us know.
Once again thank you for your support.
Have you reserved your table for quiz night? Spots are filling fast!
Love rocking odd, colourful, or jolly socks?
Don't miss out orders close today!
